As far as controversy, the world currently has their eyes on Dallas, TX following the shooting of Botham Jean in his home by a police officer who entered the wrong apartment. Tragic events like that always have a way of eventually bringing people closer together, as we’ve seen time and time again.
But when it comes to music, the Triple D has a colorful, rich history of producing some of the hottest musicians to push the culture forward, from Erykah Badu to Dorrough Music. As of late, the “That’s On Me” rapper Yella Beezy is carrying the torch. Another hidden gem putting on for the city is an artist by the name of Big Mo. We got a chance to catch up with him to see what he’s been up to. Here’s what he had to say…
7 Star Dreams: It’s rare that an artist from one region is able to capture the sound of another. In your case, I’m sure you’ve been told that your music has a lot of vibes from the 6 (Toronto). Who are some of your influences?
Big Mo: Ya I have a lot of love for the 6. Some of the guys from there who influenced me are J-Soul, Safe, Roy Woods. Fans also like comparing me and Ramriddlz, I guess because we are both known for the dance hall sound haha.
7 Star Dreams: Your last single “Moah’s Ark” was a pretty solid record with a new wave sound, that racked up over 60,000 streams on SoundCloud. Any plans on shooting a music video for it and what inspired the song?
Big Mo: As of right now I’m still debating whether I’m going to shoot a music video for it. If I’m going to, it needs to be done right. Can’t be no basic quality. What inspired the track is dealing with females wanting to associate themselves with me and expecting me to be their savior. Being an artist on the rise, groupies know when you got clout and will do whatever for a quick come up.
7 Star Dreams: They say if you “fail to plan, you plan to fail,” so what are some of your goals for 2018?
Big Mo: My goals for 2018 are to hopefully do some shows, expand my fan base more, and keep taking my music to the next level.
7 Star Dreams: Totally off the wall question, but if you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
Big Mo: I would like to visit Dubai because it seems like a really cool place. Sick views, nice cars, pretty women haha.
7 Star Dreams: I’m sure you’ve been working on new music. What can fans expect next?
Big Mo: Fans can expect to hear some R&B tracks coming soon. Also have a lot of surprises with top artists and producers. So stay tuned!
7 Star Dreams: Finally, sharing is caring so what’s some advice you would give to another up-and-coming rapper trying to find their way in the Music Industry?
Big Mo: Have fun with it. Taking it too seriously will have you stressed and eventually hate making music.
