MODULE 4: LESSON 6

Check out the content below about: Registering Your Retail Sales With Nielsen SoundScan

Notes:

Registering with Nielsen SoundScan ensures that when your music is sold, you get credit. Think of retail sales as like your resume in the Music Business. Your record sales say a lot about you. It shows there is a demand for your music, it shows you are prepared, and most importantly–it proves that you can sell albums and downloads.

Registering your music is free so you would be foolish not to take advantage of this. Keep in mind, you must have a UPC code to register your music. You can get a UPC code from distributors like TuneCore when you upload your music.

The way I do it is I usually only register my singles this way. These are mainly songs I promote on blogs and radio. The reason why is because I can make more money off of selling albums (not singles), and I register my albums with SoundScan using another service called Indiehitmaker (I’ll discuss this in a later lesson).
